The Middle East has long been a region of significant political, economic, and cultural importance. This program provides a critical analysis of the region's political evolution, the impact of colonialism, the role of religion, and the intricate relationships between Middle Eastern states, global powers, and international organizations.
The MA program in “Middle Eastern Political History and International Relations” is a two-year academic program designed for students who wish to develop their academic interests and pursue professional careers in the field of Middle Eastern Studies. The first year consists of major courses, and the second year of thesis writing. Major courses present a firm understanding of international relations theories, and they are applied to Middle Eastern politics. To encourage an interdisciplinary approach, the MA program also offers courses in the political history of the Middle East and Islamic countries in the 19th and 20th centuries, the Middle East in international relations, intellectual and social and political movements in the modern Middle East and Islamic countries, the modern intellectual history of Islam. Additionally, language classes are offered for students who want to learn one of the Middle Eastern languages, Arabic, Persian, and Ottoman Turkish. By successfully completing the program, graduates would have a theoretical background to comprehend the Middle Eastern Politics.
Our Master's program provides a common foundation in the methods and disciplines relevant to Middle Eastern studies. It is based on intensive training in various areas of knowledge based on a combination of lectures, tutorials and paper writing. The program will allow you to develop research and writing skills with training in appropriate theoretical and methodological approaches under the supervision of a faculty advisor on a topic of your choice. The MA Program teaches both qualitative and quantitative methodologies through assessed studies. Upon successful completion of the program, graduates will have a theoretical background to understand Middle Eastern politics and thus be able to pursue academic, business or media and journalism careers and find opportunities in the private or government sectors, NGOs, policy-making and research institutions.
