About the Book
The Armenian claims, which have been debated both nationally and internationally for many years, must be addressed within the framework of the 'continuing state' debate, considering Turkey’s foreign policy and international law perspectives. Whether Turkey is the successor to the Ottoman Empire, and if so, whether this status entails international responsibility for the events of 1915, remains a topical issue. Against this backdrop, the book Assessments of the Armenian Issue within the Framework of International Law evaluates concepts such as genocide, state succession, international responsibility and freedom of expression, considering decisions made by the International Court of Justice, the International Criminal Court and the European Court of Human Rights. Notably, the European Court of Human Rights' ruling in the Perinçek v. Switzerland case established a significant precedent by deciding that labelling the 1915 events as genocide infringes freedom of expression.
