Loom frames are devices used to produce woven bands, commonly known as kolan, bağ or ip. Traditionally handwoven, the patterns, colours and techniques of these bands depended on their intended use. They were produced by women at home and by men professionally. However, changing lifestyles and the rise of mechanisation have led to the gradual disappearance of this tradition. This book explores the history, techniques and materials of çarpana weaving, and it also presents a catalogue featuring examples, some of which are being published for the first time.
